In Praise of Waverly Teachers
By Nadine and Glen
On March 12, Waverly, along with other Pasadena area independent schools, decided to temporarily close the school campus in an effort to protect our children and community from the spread of COVID-19.
We don’t know about you, but we are still reeling from the scope and impact of this pandemic that continues to transform our daily lives. This is why we wanted to write an open letter in praise of Waverly teachers.
We have been fans of our teachers for many years. We have witnessed the care and love they bring to teaching and learning at the elementary, middle, and high schools. So, when Waverly teachers were asked to transform their carefully worked, thoughtful lesson plans in a single weekend to fit an experimental remote learning platform under incredibly stressful circumstances, Glen and I were both worried and had faith in Waverly’s skill and commitment to making it work. Still, Waverly teachers blew us away. Their creativity, compassion, and professionalism during this crisis is stunning — a testament to teachers everywhere.
Waverly teachers are simply phenomenal. Thank you for teaching our children how to persevere in these unexpected times. I hope this spring break offers you an opportunity to recover and recuperate with your family and loved ones. Be well. Stay safe. GO RAVENS!
