The Waverly Elementary School consists of Young Kindergarten through sixth grade (Young Kindergarten students must be at least 3 years 9 months at the beginning of the school year). Each student group is in a self-contained classroom with two teachers and a maximum of 24 students. This provides the student with a very conservative 12:1 student-teacher ratio.

Beginning in first grade, each class is multi-age, that is first and second grade, third and fourth grade, and fifth and sixth are integrated. Class configurations can change from year to year. Teachers form learning groups based on the students' developmental level and not a chronological age. As a result, teachers often stay with the same group of students for two consecutive years.

An interdisciplinary curriculum, built around a social studies theme, is developed by each teacher every year. Using this approach, teachers guide students in mastering the basic skills while exploring the earth and its people.

Oral and written assessments of class assignments and cumulative performance in class keep the focus on learning and individual progress. Parents meet with teachers at least twice yearly to review their child's portfolio and assess progress.

Field trips, outdoor education, and community service are integral parts of the school's program and occur on a regular basis at all levels.

Before-school care and after-school programs are available.
